Neptune Opposition of USA

The Pluto Return of the USA (2020-2023) is undoubtably one of the major astro events of this decade (or century 🙃) because of the USA’s massive influence over the world’s economy. The Pluto in the USA chart is associated with the economy and how the standard of American work culture and administration (Pluto in Capricorn) infiltrates internationally. With Pluto we find shadow material and the dark of the countries wealth and influence are founded on slavery and we witness through the Pluto Cycle how ever critical points in its cycle show various reiterations that the culture of slavery is continually enforced.

As we experience a powerful threshold in world history during 2022 because of the USA Pluto Return another important cosmic event is also occurring for the the USA as well with the Neptune Opposite natal Neptune.

Neptune’s natural associations are idealism, spirituality and universality, as well as confusion, deceit, inflation and panic. Neptune in the context of a countries natal chart represents it’s highest ideals and values around interconnectivity.

The USA Natal Neptune is in the sign Virgo which has an association with the workforce. Virgo is often related to service workers. What is interesting is the concept of the ‘American Dream’ has an idyllic reputation for immigrating to the states and working toward a better life. We are all familiar with the immigration stories of working up the ladder. While the American Dream is sought after, the US Neptune placement in Virgo seems to illuminate a strange paradox. The American dream of liberty and justice for all (Neptune) seems more like a empty motto as systemic racism and discrimination has been present throughout all American history (the critical expression of Virgo).

In other words, Neptune as an open. free thinking, non-judgemental archetype does not match the discerning, perfecting and critical nature of Virgo. In this there is an interesting contrast to the idea of the American Dream. This does seem to play out as we examine key dates within the Neptune Cycle.

In studying how Neptune’s 165 year cycle plays a role in US history there is a very direct correlation to war. Every critical period with the USAs Neptune Cycle has involved some of the most expensive wars in American History.

We have experienced one entire Neptune cycle, from the inception of the US in 1776 to 1940.

The first Netpune Cycle wars were centered around the brutal expansion of US territory. While the second Neptune cycle data points center maintaining American authority internationally, especially in opposition to communism.

Critical points in any planetary cycle can be determined by dividing the planetary cycle into four.

1776

The American Revolution

The inception of the United States is synonymous with war

1817

The first Seminole War

The Seminole Wars were some of the most expensive wars in US history. As natives continually were pushed out of their homelands, runaway slaves often found refuge with natives. These groups of displaced peoples were considered to be ‘seminoles’ derived from the spanish word cimarrón meaning runaway or savage.

1856

Third Seminole War

Start of forced Native Reservations

Transcontinental Railroad developing

The Neptune opposition sees the result or climax of the Neptune cycle. At this time manifest destiny is at its height. As the quest for expanding US territory continues, we see the start of native american reservation and the continuation of the 3rd Seminole war. The continued debate around slavery is influenced by the Transcontinental Railroad development which would seek to unify the states by allowing dependable transit between. The continued debate around slavery contributed to the American Civil war.

1899

-Philippine American War

-Spanish American War

These wars attributed to the US acquisition of Guam, Puerto Rico, Philippines and Hawaii. These wars were not only motivated by land, but they were also displays of US power over weakened Spain.

Notice the entirety of the critical points in the US Neptune have association with bullying, deceit, violence and forceful expansion of US territory.

1940

-World War 2

-Leading to atomic warfare

-Cash & Carry

At the Neptune return, it is the lead up to World War 2. The ‘cash and carry’ The US stance to neutrality lasted for 2 years until they bombed Japan one of the most violent acts in world history. Prior to the bombing, the US passed the Neutrality Act of 1939 which allowed sales of weapons to other approved countries as so long as they paid cash and handled their own shipping.

1982

-Cold War 2

The Cold Wars were rooted in the USAs paranoia and potential threat of communism.

2021-2022

As we currently experience the Neptune opposition, our collective worry or disillusionment seems to increase. We have been experiencing the exact Neptune opposition since 2021 and it will still be experiencing it in 2022. In combination with the disaster of the health care system and all frontline service workers (another Virgo association) amidst the COVID pandemic and a very harsh display of police militarization during the protesting during 2020.

Will another civil war occur, just like the previous Neptune opposition 165 years ago?

One of the jewels of Astrology is that it organizes history so that we can be well informed of repetitive cycles.

The USAs Neptune has a specific association with war because of its tight square to Mars. Neptune’s square to Mars is the reason why critical Neptune transits in the US chart will unfortunately always relate to heavy military activity and violence.

The square to Mars highlights the brutal way in which American ideals are imposed on other countries. It also is fitting that this Neptune Mars aspect also speaks to the heavily ingrained American psychology around freedom that perpetuates toxic individualism even when it disregards the civil rights of others.

While the data in the Neptune cycle speaks for itself, disillusion, which is a common Neptune experience has it’s virtues of showing where the dream must be fortified by integrating the stark reality of those initial American ideals have led us to where we currently stand. In tandem with the Pluto return, so much comes to light in 2022 for America. For those of us who are citizens, we have a role in looking deeply at how we perpetuate attitudes of freedom that support the American agenda of expansion at all costs and liberty that is afforded to some by being literally stolen from others.
